Nissan Bets Big on China With the All-New N7 EV
Nissan is in trouble and, to save money, is reportedly trying to sell its headquarters in Yokohama, Japan . Movements in the U.S. have also led the automaker to scrap its most affordable model. But the Japanese automaker isn’t giving up yet, particularly in one of the world’s largest automotive markets: China.
At the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, Nissan unveiled its latest EV, the N7, to entice Chinese customers. Made in collaboration with Dongfeng as part of a joint venture, the Nissan Altima-sized N7 is a critical model for the marque. Japanese automakers are currently under pressure from the surge in popularity of homegrown EV makers. Of note, Nissan’s sales in the People’s Republic have slumped by 12% in 2024.
But the Nissan N7 has another feature in that’s rather unique. It touts the most comfortable car seats in the world, so much so that the company has turned them into office chairs.
Car Seats “Comfortable As a Sofa”
According to Nikkei Asia, Nissan’s decision to produce office furniture based on the N7’s seats was due to customer feedback, with Nissan’s seats described as “comfortable as a sofa.”
Called the “AI Zero Pressure Cloud Cushion Seat,” the chair was originally developed to be used as the driver and front passenger seats of the Nissan N7 EV. Supported by artificial intelligence, the chair is equipped with 49 smart sensors that adjust pressure based on the user’s body shape and posture. It also has heated seat capability.

Office Chair With 12-Point Massage System
Most importantly, the office chair has a cool 12-point massage system, targeting areas like the neck, shoulders, and back, with three intensity levels and ten massage programs. Now that’s an office chair we’d love to have.
Measuring 63 inches tall, 29.1 inches wide, and 31.5 inches deep, the Nissan office chair’s cushion can extend up to 2.4 inches for maximum comfort. It can be controlled via a smartphone app, and operates while plugged in or on battery. Full charge lasts five hours.

Available For Sale
This isn’t the first time that Nissan has delved into making office chairs. In 2016, the automaker revealed an office chair that can park itself, as part of Nissan’s promotion of its Intelligent Mobility suite of smart vehicle technologies. However, this will be the first time the company will sell office furniture directly to the public.
Available via Dongfeng Nissan’s official app in China, the AI Zero Pressure Cloud Cushion Seat has a price tag of 9,888 yuan, or approximately $1,372 at current exchange rates. Whether the chairs are sold outside of China remains to be seen.
