Tata Sierra testing begins in India

Tata Motors showcased a variety of products at the Bharat Mobility Expo last month, one of which was the ICE-powered Sierra in its near-production form. The brand has now begun testing its new SUV, ahead of its launch later this year.

As seen in the spy shot, the Sierra test mule is fully camouflaged. It remains unknown whether the test car under the wraps is an ICE or EV, although it is likely to be the latter, as that is the version that will be launched first. While the EV version will arrive in the coming months, the ICE derivatives will be introduced towards the end of the calendar year.
Tata Motors has commenced testing of the highly anticipated Tata Sierra SUV on Indian roads, marking a significant step toward its reintroduction into the market. The Sierra, a nameplate that holds nostalgic value, is set to make a comeback with both electric (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) variants.
Design and Features
Spy shots reveal that the new Sierra retains the iconic silhouette reminiscent of its predecessor from the 1990s. Key design elements include a boxy structure, a high-set bonnet, and squared wheel arches. The SUV is expected to feature modern touches such as split headlamp setups, connected LED light bars at the rear, flush door handles, and large glass areas behind the C-pillars. Top trims are likely to come equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels.
Interior and Technology
While interior details remain under wraps, the Sierra is anticipated to offer a blend of modern technology and comfort. The showcased model at the Auto Expo featured a floating triple-screen setup and a four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo. Features such as a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are expected to enhance the driving experience.
Powertrain Options
The Tata Sierra will cater to diverse preferences with both EV and ICE variants. The EV model is expected to utilize Tata's Gen2 EV platform, potentially offering a range exceeding 500 kilometers on a single charge. The ICE version is likely to be powered by a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine producing around 170 PS and 280 Nm of torque, with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Launch Timeline
The Sierra EV is slated for launch in the coming months, with the ICE variants expected to follow toward the end of the year. Upon its release, the Tata Sierra will compete in the mid-size SUV segment, rivaling models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Grand Vitara.
The revival of the Tata Sierra signifies Tata Motors' commitment to blending heritage with modernity, offering consumers a vehicle that combines nostalgic design elements with contemporary features and technology.
