JSW MG Motor India has introduced a first-of-its-kind Green Pretreatment line at its Halol plant, cutting 1,800 tons of carbon emissions annually. The shift, developed with PPG Asian Paints, marks a major step toward sustainable auto manufacturing.

Traditional paint pretreatment requires high temperatures (42–50°C), consuming more fuel and increasing emissions. The new process operates at 38°C, reducing energy use, emissions, and maintenance costs while improving efficiency.

A History of Green Initiatives
JSW MG Motor India has consistently focused on reducing its carbon footprint. Since 2022, key changes have led to:

JSW MG Motor India has taken a significant step towards sustainable manufacturing by introducing an innovative Green Pretreatment line at its Halol plant. This initiative, developed in collaboration with PPG Asian Paints, is the first of its kind among Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in India. By operating at an ambient temperature of 38°C—lower than the conventional 42–50°C—the new pretreatment process reduces energy consumption and cuts approximately 1,800 tons of carbon emissions annually.
This advancement builds upon JSW MG Motor India's ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility. In 2022, the company adopted the ULTRAX Degreaser and High Throw Low Cure Cathodic Electro Coating Paint, leading to a combined annual CO2 reduction of 787 tons. Further efforts, including the implementation of Low-Temperature Phosphate (VERSABOND), have collectively resulted in a 47% decrease in carbon emissions.
Deputy Managing Director Biju Balendran emphasized the company's dedication to sustainability, stating that this new pretreatment line exemplifies their innovative approach to green manufacturing and sets a new industry benchmark for sustainable practices.
