Uttar Pradesh has registered a 19% contribution in the 20 lakhs EV registered in 2024, a report by Inc42 shows.
The India’s Electric Vehicle Startup Landscape Report, 2025 highlighted that the market for electric vehicles in India is expanding at an unprecedented rate, with the industry expected to reach $132 billion by 2030. Rising fuel prices, government subsidies, and growing environmental awareness have all contributed to the industry's notable growth in two-, three-, and commercial fleets, the report added.
According to Inc42's "India's Electric Vehicle Startup Landscape Report, 2025," Uttar Pradesh (UP) led India's electric vehicle (EV) adoption in 2024, contributing 19% to the 2 million EVs registered nationwide. This significant uptake underscores UP's pivotal role in the country's transition to sustainable transportation.
Key Highlights:
UP's Dominance: With 380,000 EV registrations in 2024, UP emerged as the top state for EV adoption, reflecting its robust policy framework and incentives.
National Growth: India witnessed a 30% year-on-year increase in EV registrations, nearing the 2 million mark in 2024.
Segment Performance: Electric two-wheeler registrations surged by 33%, indicating a growing consumer shift towards eco-friendly mobility solutions.
Challenges Ahead:
Despite UP's impressive adoption rates, the state's EV infrastructure development has not kept pace. The rapid increase in EV numbers necessitates a corresponding expansion of charging facilities to ensure sustained growth and user convenience.
Conclusion:
UP's leadership in EV adoption showcases the effectiveness of supportive policies and incentives. However, to maintain this momentum, addressing infrastructure challenges is crucial for the continued success of EV integration in the state.
